The lyric had been seeping in for a few weeks, and now that the boring photos discussion is gearing up again and the concomitant notion of an aesthetic/spritual emptying, I see this song is really about the openness of youth, the resilience, the sense of potential because *nothing* is settled and defined. Of course Joey can get his PhD - he can be president! He can do anything! As a teenager, having no mind to lose is a dangerous and exciting thing. As an adult, it's even more thrilling. Joey Ramone knew this. Brian Wilson knows this. The lyric validates the stripped-down basics of the music and vice versa. It can be anything. It can be Hanson.

The negative space was born of necessity, as someone's head blocked the view forward and I lay in wait for the soloists to bob and weave out of harm's way. I was fascinated watching them dance in such fashion, the musical interplay becoming physical. From a Capitol City Symphony chamber concert @ the Atlas Performing Arts Center.

As we walked through the march, Snelson would go up to pretty women and other photogenic characters saying, "We're from Denmark - can my friend take my picture with you?" He shot some 400 pictures with my digital, and I shot nine rolls of film, the most I've ever shot in a single day.

John was wont to approach even those who seemed intimidating. But this was a carnival for peace. In this convivial atmosphere, dozens of people accepted when John, in the guise of a touring Dane accompanied by a mysteriously Filipino cameraman, asked for a picture. It wasn't until after the march was over, and we had left the grounds, that his photogenic advances were rejected, by a moustachioed subway worker, who in a curious mirroring of the days events, was discouraged by his Asian colleague.

School band plays [dj shadow's] 'endtroducing' with real instruments

The after-school percussion group at Minnetonka High School, Minneapolis, rehearsed for months and can now play two tracks from DJ Shadow's 'Endtroducing' album. The music was arranged by 25 year-old geographer/law student/vibraslap enthusiast Brian Udelhofen, who teaches the group.

more from last weekend's trip to the pg county fair with birdcage et. al. more of my pictures here. the wb bus had a table full of promotional items for their hit series. however, you had to get a raffle ticket, which was free, and comec back to check on the drawings they'd hold every 15 minutes. I took a ticket and promptly lost it, and when I stopped by the table on the way back from the animal exhibits, two hours after the sun had gone down, the station was unmanned. the table covered with a tarp. under the tarp, the "winning" raffle tickets were taped aroudn the edge of the table. I was sure I won, so I took one of the gilmore girls magnets as my prize. like something out of Irish literature, isn't it.

"Stop the Bop" for Katrina

Delone Catholic High School in McSherrystown, Pa., has a fun fundraising program called 'Stop the Bop.'

Suggested by a few members of the student council, the school is playing Hanson's 1996 hit 'MMMBop' through the loudspeakers before classes begin, between periods and during lunch. The idea? Annoy students into donating; have them pay to stop the music.
